Have you ever driven down by waterfront? If you have you have probably encountered two of the craziest streets in Jersey City. The first one is Washington Street. When driving south on Washington Street towards Montgomery Street a funny thing happens. Just two blocks before you hit Montgomery, Washington for no rhyme or reason becomes a 3 lane one way street. Now this is not a big deal so long as you continue south. However, when you are driving north on Washington and you hit Montgomery, you now have to make a one block detour either to Warren Street or Green Street.
This foolishness causes all kinds of traffic delays during rush hour. The most frustrating part about this detour from what I was told by the city, is that the one way business was a mistake when Washington Street was slightly elevated.
Can you beat that, a mistake? A mistake that the city seems to have no interest in correcting. Worse yet it is such an easy mistake to fix.
Oh but wait there is more. If you chose the Green Street detour, you will find crazy street #2! That is right, your inconvenient detour take you to more inconvenience.
This is end of Green Street. Not the real end, that would merge you right back onto Washington Street where you belong, but rather a man made end that blocks off the last block of Green Street. Why is that barricade there for all these years after the Portifino went up? Beats me. The street is just fine, yet you have to make another detour.
Mayor Healy claims in his endless TV ads that he is "delivering change we can see". Well Mr. Mayor, I would like to see the end to all this foolishness, 'cause it is driving us crazy!
