And How Many Jobs Do You Have?

During these tough economic times, many of us here in Jersey City are looking for work or saying our prayers that we can keep the job we have. Not so with Team Healy at City Hall. Here multiple jobs are quite common and quite lucrative too!

Several members of Team Healy have 2 or more jobs with both the city and the county. They seem unconcerned about any conflict of interest as they fill their pockets with our tax dollars.

Check out some of these multiple jobs and nice salaries that we are paying for:

Nidia Lopez Council Candidate Ward C $147,000.00

  • Hudson County Director of Welfare $95,000 per year.
  • Car & expenses - fully paid for by Jersey City $12,000 per year.
  • Council should she win $40,000.

Bill Gaughan Councilman Ward D $149,000.00

  • City Councilman $40,000 per year.
  • Chief of Staff to County Executive Tom Degise $92,000 per year.
  • Car & expenses paid for by Jersey City $12,000 per year.
  • Funeral Director with State of NJ contract for special burials @ $5,000 each.
  • Has 2 daughters, one on country payroll and one on city payroll.

Willie Flood Council At Large $137,000.00

  • City Councilwoman $40,000 per year.
  • Hudson County Minority Affairs $85,000 per year.
  • Car & expenses paid for by Jersey City $12,000 per year.
  • Pension from Board of Ed, unknown.
  • Son works in her office (salary unknown) and husband works for Incinerator Authority.

Marianno Vega Council At Large $177,000.00

  • City Council Salary $40,000 per year.
  • Hudson County Director of Human Services $125,000 per year.
  • Car & expenses paid for by Jersey City $12,000 per year.

Peter Brennan Council At Large $142,00.00

  • City Council Salary $40,000 per year.
  • Hudson County Director of Maintenance $70,000 per year.
  • Aide to Hudson County Executive Tom Degise $20,000 per year.
  • Car & expenses paid for by Jersey City $12,000 per year.

Viola Richardson councilwoman Ward F $187,000.00

  • City Council Salary $40,000 per year.
  • Employed by County of Hudson $75,000 per year.
  • Police Department pension $60,000 per year.
  • Car & expenses paid for by Jersey City $12,000 per year.

Just a quick review of this list, leaves one with several questions

  1. Since council positions are part time positions, why is the city paying for all these cars and its expenses (gas & insurance) ?
  2. Since so many of these Healy Team members make greater salaries with the county, doesn't that cause a conflict of interest when the city and the county are at odds?
  3. Since both Brennan and Gaughan work directly for Tom Degise, does this mean Degise gets two "backdoor" votes with the council?

Mayor Healy's slogan is "delivering change you can see", but with all this double dealing, methinks we should be worried about the change we cannot see!
